Just Like That, I am Back

If I said I was back, would you believe me? Blogging is complicated, and there are so many "get rich quick" blogging schemes that make it look like you are a lost cause if you are not currently earning money blogging. And why are you even blogging if you don't have multiple streams of income and entertainment. If you don't have a brand? I do have this website, but I do not have Instagram, Twitter, TikTok (you don't want to see me dance), or whatever is next.  Heck, I haven't even updated this since before the pandemic. So why am I here, writing about being back and then, probably ghosting for another two years? Life has been rough. It's been painful and overwhelming. I am so thankful for you my readers, or what is left of you. I am so thankful you are reading this post. I am so thankful that you are still committed to making the world a more exciting and more sustainable place.  Keep up-cycling my friends, and you never know, I might be back again with an

10 Simple Ways To Upcycle

Upcycling is taking something that was once previously owned and turning it into something new.

A lot of people think that upcycling is simply taking something new and making it better. While that is fun, and I do it myself, it does not fall into the realm of upcycling. It's being an awesome crafter.

Now does that mean an upcycled product has to be 100% reused. Well I think that would be pretty darn hard (but possible). I use new thread and sometimes even the occasional new material to make the necks of some of my upcycled T-shirt dresses. I would definately consider those upcycled.

With that said here are ten ways you can upcyle:

  1. Wrap presents with newspaper instead of buying new wrapping paper.
  2. Take that old T-shirt you haven't worn in years and make a pillow, childs dress, or a more fitted version of the previous tee.
  3. Oatmeal containers make great drums or banks.  Mod Podge or paint can spruce them up quite a bit.
  4. If you have a piece of furniture that feels drab a little paint can go a long way.
  5. Fabric scraps make great stuffing for stuffed animals, pillows, you name it.
  6. Old photo frame + a coat of paint + wallpaper or cool fabric = awesome
  7. Turn that T-shirt into a halter top.
  8. Compost (using food scraps to make new soil should count!)
  9. Take junk mail and make a pinata with the kids and some glue and water.
  10. Mod Podge the cover of an old book to make a new conversation piece.

I like the idea of converting old shirts to a pillow. I've even heard of taking old shirts and turning them into quilts. See, now you have my creative juices flowing and I'm thinking of things to upcycle in my house. :-) LOL

Visiting you from the SITS Girls #31dbb! :-)
I love the idea of making junk mail the insides of pinata. So much more fun than just throwing it in the recycle bin. I don't have to have kids to make one, do I? ;)

I like to save my sraps of yarn and fabric to use as stuffing for small stuffed toys or pincushions and such.

Also, when it's time to sow seeds for the garden, I reuse any plastic containers I can find--tofu containers are really nice.

I also use boxes from tea, cereal or pasta to mail small gifts in. Just pull apart at the seams, fold so the plain inside is facing out and retape or glue into a box again. You can also stamp it, decorate it, etc. The pasta boxes have the cutest little celophane "windows" to stick a cute drawing or piece of art (greeting card, magazine photo, etc).

some time ago I was experimenting with tetra-brick, I made a little box to put aromatic herbs like basil in the fridge, and it works!!!!, after a few days it was still fresh to be used for cooking, and it works for the lettuce, cherries, and strawberries too:-)
