Just Like That, I am Back

 If I said I was back, would you believe me? Blogging is complicated, and there are so many "get rich quick" blogging schemes that make it look like you are a lost cause if you are not currently earning money blogging. And why are you even blogging if you don't have multiple streams of income and entertainment. If you don't have a brand? I do have this website, but I do not have Instagram, Twitter, TikTok (you don't want to see me dance), or whatever is next.  Heck, I haven't even updated this since before the pandemic. So why am I here, writing about being back and then, probably ghosting for another two years? Life has been rough. It's been painful and overwhelming. I am so thankful for you my readers, or what is left of you. I am so thankful you are reading this post. I am so thankful that you are still committed to making the world a more exciting and more sustainable place.  Keep up-cycling my friends, and you never know, I might be back again with an

Smiles for Sophie Forever

I am a mom, and being a mom the following story makes me cry (just a warning).

Smiles for Sophie is a race run in honor of Sophie Quayle who passed away from pediatric brain cancer at the age of four. Her family started a foundation called Smiles for Sophie Forever to help fund pediatric brain cancer research. You can read more about the organization, Sophie's story and struggle , and find out how you can donate here:


Sophie was born on the Fourth of July and this is the fourth race honoring her. The course runs around the neighborhood Sophi used to run and play in. The racers leave a red, white, or blue carnation in front of Sophie's house as they pass by. The course ends at what could be considered one amazing birthday party.

C1 and I ran the one mile race and I pushed C2 in the cart. The Hubsters ran the 5K in 23:24, which is amazing to me.

The best part of the race, and the reason I chose this very race for my daughters first was the fact that she is the same age as Sophie. Telling her Sophie's story helps to instill not only a sense of empathy for others, but a sense of pride that what she is doing, running this race, is helping to raise money to support pediatric brain cancer research. She is raising money to help the doctors do research to find a cure so that other little kids don't have to go to heaven too soon.

I am so glad I started running and I am so glad I can share this with my fabulous family. I am so lucky to have two amazing and healthy children that I am going to hug tighter than you can ever imagine tonight!

What an awesome event! We participated a bike-a-thon a few weeks ago for a friends son who has a cancer-like illness...but thankfully he's still fighting and doing well.

Awww.. That is the sweetest way to spend 4th of July.. and I don't think that there could have been a dry eye at the race. Good for you guys!

Hello lovely T-shirt Diary followers!  The Pink Bat Girl is here to rescue you from plain old scrap wood and boredom today with a fun Memorial Day upcycled project!  My block wood is courtesy of an old toddler bed that all of my kids used from Ikea.  The bed has been given away, however, we still had the old wood that went under the mattress.  I thought it would make some really great wood blocks!
