Just Like That, I am Back

Image
If I said I was back, would you believe me? Blogging is complicated, and there are so many "get rich quick" blogging schemes that make it look like you are a lost cause if you are not currently earning money blogging. And why are you even blogging if you don't have multiple streams of income and entertainment. If you don't have a brand? I do have this website, but I do not have Instagram, Twitter, TikTok (you don't want to see me dance), or whatever is next.  Heck, I haven't even updated this since before the pandemic. So why am I here, writing about being back and then, probably ghosting for another two years? Life has been rough. It's been painful and overwhelming. I am so thankful for you my readers, or what is left of you. I am so thankful you are reading this post. I am so thankful that you are still committed to making the world a more exciting and more sustainable place.  Keep up-cycling my friends, and you never know, I might be back again with an

Sell Your House on Facebook

Image
Once again I find myself selling a home in Lakewood, Ohio in a really DOWN economy. This time I am embracing Social Media and trying to sell the home via Facebook . Will it work, or will I end up with a realtor in a month. The world will just have to wait and see. Step one: I started a Facebook page for my house. Heck it might as well be a person it has a personality: Friend My House! I figured if you are going to get the word out about the house you might as well make it big. So please friend my house. It wants so much just to be a popular house, with friends. I was thinking about giving her a twitter page, but you know what I barely use twitter myself so that probably won't work. I will probably also list the house on Craigslist, but that is for another day. Until then, friend my house, give me some crazy creative suggestions, and let me know what you think.

Umbrella Stand

Image
Let me start this post by saying that I am a HUGE Jack Vettriano fan!  Love his paintings.. especially the ones with umbrellas.. we have 4 in our living room.  So it was no big stretch of the imagination that when I had a vision for this to become an umbrella stand that Jack Vettriano was the style that immediately came to mind. So here it is the Jack Vettriano umbrella umbrella stand! And here is how I made it! Materials cylinder (mine is the butt end of a newsprint roll from the newspaper.) Spray paint printed pictures of Jack Vettriano paintings glue sponge brush ribbon Start with your cylinder. Spray paint it the color of choice.  Mine is black. When the paint is dry decoupage your pictures all around in the design that you like. Last add your ribbon embellishment and fill with your umbrella. And take lots of pictures! And One more Hope you like it... I know I DO! Love, Amie

Stashes, Doxyclycine, and Morning Sickness?

Image
Have you signed up for Stashbusting September yet? All the cool kids have! Now onto my regularly scheduled post. I have to say I had some fun things planned for today but sadly I had morning sickness, and no I am not pregnant. I took doxycycline on an empty tummy. DO NOT DO THIS EVER! I have to tell you I have never been so sick in my life. I was ill for two straight hours, was fortunate that my wonderful friend Karlie was able to come to my house, on her birthday, and take C1 to school, then my fabulous parents took the little guy. I then realized in my compromised state I was snack mom and I sent my girl to school with no snacks. Again becoming the world s worst parent.  Mom to the rescue running to Target then to C1's summer camp so as not to be the failure of a momma I felt like. Then I went back to sleep, woke up at 2pm and must have had a flashback to college or something because who gets up that late? Seriously who. So needless today the regularly scheduled po

Stashbusting Inspiration!

Image
Okay.. obviously stashbusting September doesn't start until September.. but signups are starting NOW.. so I thought that I would offer a stashbusting project that I have been thinking about doing for a LOOOOONG time!  This is the crafty kick in the butt that I needed! So here it is .. my dino speciman art! No.. I don't have any dino rooms in the making.. but I just love dino art and found these sweet dinos at the $1 store and had to have them! So here is what I used from my stash.. Boy paper, wood dinos, canvas, paint and glue. First I glued a piece of leafy looking paper to my canvas. Next I painted all of my outside edges brown. Then I glued patterned paper onto my wood dinos. Last I glued my dinos onto my canvas. Yay.. a cute project and a stash bust!  Hooray.. now if you want to join in the fun don't forget to stop by here and add your name to the list! Love, Amie

Image
Welcome to Stashbusting September. We are gearing up for a big showing for all so I figured I would start sign-ups early. First off this Stashbusting September is going to be different because it is going to be run hear at The T-Shirt Diaries, and also over at Pinkapoamus. Secondly we have a lovely mascot. Seriously what would a contest be without a mascot? So let me introduce you to Stashbusting Sam: Stashbusting September blogs are voluntarily giving up buying crafting supplies for the month of September. They promise to: Link your blog (the main page please not an individual post) to the linky below. The linky will be open until September 3th at Midnight. Craft for personal use only with items they have on hand. No buying new craft supplies, even if you are shopping at Goodwill or garage sales. It is all about busting your craft supply at hand and actually doing those projects you bought all the stash for in the first place. (Buying craft supplies for business use IS per

Old Shirt = New Bib

Image
My kids are growing up sooo fast.. and of course outgrowing their clothes even faster!  Usually I find places to donate my kids clothes to.. but my neighbor has an adorable little guy who is still only a toddler so sometimes I save the cutest things for him! This morning while looking at my littlest guys Oscar t-shirt (sniff.. sniff)..  I got to thinking that it would be an adorable bib for Liam (the neighbor). So I got out my trusty scissors and got to work! First I cut off the bottom of the shirt in a rounded manner so it had the shape of a bib. Next I turned the shirt inside out and cut around the seams of the sleeves and cut the sides open. Then I cut the back so that it was bit shorter than the front and straight across. Last I pinned the edge of the back and sewed a straight seam so that it would not have a ragged edge. And viola!  A cute bib for my cute neighbor lovey who said MY name for the first time yesterday! But of course this is my littest guy being the most adorab

Where is Robin?

Image
Hi guys. Just a brief update that my blog posts will be a little less frequent for a while. I am going through some not-so-fun medical issues and have to step back from a lot of things. I love my readers and am hoping I will still get Upcycled Awesome up and running every week and I do plan on doing another round of "Stashbusting September" with the Pink Batgirl this time (joint adventures are so much more fun). So....well I will just keep you all updated.

Craft Disaster for Me Too!

Image
I figured that since Robin had shared her recent craft fail.. that I would share a loooong story of mine too!  My friend Carolyn asked me to make centerpieces for her son Jakob's christening.  She introduced me to my husband.. so I guess I owed it to her (lol).  Jakob.. isn't he adorable? Originally I wanted to make photo blocks with his picture, some crosses and the words "God Bless Jakob".  After going to AC Moore we found that the two photo boxes would cost $7 per table without scrapbook paper or anything else.  Carolyn being ever thrifty went to the dollar store to find a less expensive alternative.  After shopping around she found cardboard boxes with lids in different sizes for $1 a piece, making each centerpiece about $2 per table plus scrapbook paper.  I got to work right away on the project.  But oh my gosh! First I tried painting the boxes white but the paint peeled off.  Then I started again by making square templates out of an old cereal box so that I

Upcycled Awesome #54

Image
It's Upcycled Awesome time. Here is the thing as much as I love a good upcycled project I also want to include a little stashbusting magic. I know I have quite the stash I am trying to get through and I would love if you would post your stashbusting projects as well as your amazing upcycled projects. Post as many entries as you like! The more upcycled and stashbusting links the better in my opinion. Not that my linky party is really all that different from any other party out there, but I do have a few easy rules: Find your favorite Upcycled art project and share it with our readers. Stashbusting projects are also welcome to be posted during this linky as well What is an upcycled art project? Take something old and make it new again, a T-shirt that you stained, a picture frame that was about to be tossed, upcycling is all about taking the old and making it new again. Add a link below to a specific blog post not your main blog address Grab a party button and pop it up on you

Craft Fail

Image
We all have them. Those craft projects we worked so tirelessly on that just didn't turn out. Well maybe you are perfect, but I m not. Not even close. I got this book from the library: I love it and I loved that they had a great idea for using your old yellow pages for a fab upcycle seen here: You turn office paper and your old yellowpages into a pulp, shape it around a bowl, and let it set for 24 hours. I don't know where I went wrong, I would assume it has something to do with my paper to water ratio, but whatever. I just know my bowls took three days to dry and the kids made short work of them once we got them off the bowls. C2 started breaking it apart, and C1 decided that it was a fabulous Helmet! At least we had fun! Have you ever had a craft fail? Robin
